Best WhatsApp AI assistants in South Africa (2026)
Last updated
By Josh Mac Donald, founder of Ordaily
Meta AI is the general assistant built into WhatsApp itself and listed for South Africa, ChatGPT has not been on WhatsApp in South Africa since 15 January 2026, and for running your own email and calendar from WhatsApp the PA-style options include Bad Robot VAPA, Perisclaw, SarahAI, Tellexa AI and Ordaily, which differ in what they connect to, whether they ask before acting, and price. Below, each one in its own words, side by side, and who each one suits.
About this guide. Ordaily publishes this guide, and Ordaily is one of the assistants on it. Every other assistant is described from its own website, checked 17 October 2026, with the links under Sources, and the page says plainly where another assistant does something Ordaily does not.
How we chose these assistants
We listed the assistants you can message on WhatsApp in South Africa, and the ones AI search tools name when asked for a WhatsApp AI assistant, that we could check on their own websites. We did not test them hands-on. Every fact comes from the provider’s own pages, checked 17 October 2026; where a page says nothing about something, we write “not stated” rather than guess. We left out products we could not tie to one official website. The two general assistants come first, then the PA-style tools in alphabetical order, then two tools that are often named but do not live in WhatsApp, and Ordaily last.
What to look for: whether it really lives in WhatsApp, which email and calendar it works with today, whether it asks before it sends anything for you, the price and its currency, and whether it is built for South Africa.

The general AI assistants
Meta AI
Meta AI is the assistant inside WhatsApp itself: you chat with it there to ask questions, create things and get everyday tasks done, with nothing to install. Its WhatsApp page does not describe reading your email or running your calendar.
Price: No price listed on its WhatsApp page.
Suits: quick answers, writing help and everyday questions in the app you already use.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT is OpenAI’s general AI assistant for writing, research, files and images. OpenAI says it stopped working on WhatsApp after 15 January 2026 because of a WhatsApp policy change, and its release notes say it returned on 13 July 2026 in the European Economic Area only, by the country code of your WhatsApp number. In South Africa you use it in its own apps, where it can connect to Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook.
Price: Free; Go R149, Plus R399, and a higher Pro tier (its pricing page, seen from South Africa).
Suits: thinking, writing and research on any subject, in ChatGPT’s own app rather than in WhatsApp.
PA-style assistants on WhatsApp
Bad Robot VAPA
Bad Robot describes VAPA as a fully trained, business-specific AI assistant that knows your company, your clients, your products and your processes. It lists Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar, WhatsApp Business and CRM systems as integrations, and each plan has a once-off setup fee in rand.
Price: From R1,200 a month plus a R2,500 setup fee (Starter), up to R5,000 or more a month (Enterprise).
Suits: a business that wants an assistant set up and trained around its own company, clients and processes.
Perisclaw
Perisclaw calls itself your executive assistant on WhatsApp. It works with Gmail and Google Calendar and more tools, and has an autonomous mode that can selectively take over conversations, with each chat set to read-only, writable or off-limits.
Price: Pro US$15 a month in alpha pricing (shown against US$20).
Suits: people who want an assistant inside WhatsApp that can take over chosen conversations for them.
SarahAI
SarahAI describes itself as an AI executive assistant that helps professionals and SMEs stay organised by managing tasks, reminders, meetings and daily updates. You use it by WhatsApp message, voice note or its app, and it says it asks for missing details and confirms every action.
Price: US$9.99 a user a month on monthly billing.
Suits: professionals who want tasks, reminders and meetings handled over WhatsApp voice notes at a low US-dollar price.
Tellexa AI
Tellexa AI calls itself one governed workspace for AI-assisted business operations, built for teams that need roles, permissions and oversight. It works across WhatsApp, Telegram, voice, email and its apps, connects to Microsoft, Google and iCloud mail and calendars, and is open by waitlist.
Price: Personal Assistant R1,150 a month plus a Team seat at R650 a month (both excluding tax), in rand, on a minimum term of twelve months.
Suits: a team that needs an AI workspace with roles, permissions and oversight, including Outlook today.
Often named, but not inside WhatsApp
Carly
Carly is an AI assistant for email, calendar and workflows that came up when we asked AI search tools for a WhatsApp AI assistant. Carly’s own page says she is not a bot that lives inside WhatsApp: you message her by email or text, and she sends WhatsApp messages from your WhatsApp Business account.
Price: Free; Personal US$35 a month; Organization US$35 a seat a month.
Suits: sending WhatsApp Business messages to your contacts by emailing an assistant.
Lindy
Lindy is an AI teammate for whole teams that you reach in Slack, iMessage and email. It comes up in answers about AI assistants, but its own pages do not list WhatsApp as a way to talk to it.
Price: Per active user in US dollars, with monthly credits.
Suits: a team that works in Slack and wants one AI teammate everyone can use.
Where Ordaily fits
Ordaily
Ordaily is an AI PA (personal assistant) in WhatsApp for business owners and solo professionals. It handles your email, calendar and task admin, and sends nothing without your yes. It sorts your inbox into urgent, priority and follow-up, drafts replies in your style, books, moves and cancels meetings, keeps your reminders and to-do lists, catches you up on Slack and ClickUp, and sends a morning briefing as text, a voice note or a PDF. It is an AI virtual assistant for your own admin, not a customer-service chatbot.
Price: R999 a month for Standard (early access), monthly, cancel any time.
Suits: a business owner or solo professional on Gmail and Google Calendar who wants their own admin handled from WhatsApp, with every email and invite waiting for a yes, at one price in rand.
Where Ordaily is not the right fit
Outlook and Microsoft 365 are coming soon, so if your mail is on Outlook today, Tellexa AI and Bad Robot VAPA list Outlook now. Ordaily in WhatsApp groups is coming soon too. It is one person’s assistant, not a team workspace, and it does not answer your customers or take over your chats.
